Mauricio Bittar DVM

"Equine dentistry is more than a profession—it's my lifelong commitment to the health, performance, and dignity of the horse. Every procedure, every lecture, every tool I design is driven by a passion to elevate care and share knowledge across borders."

Biography

Dr. Maurício José Bittar is a Brazilian veterinarian with over 25 years of experience, dedicated exclusively to Equine Dentistry. His passion for horses began in childhood, inspired by his father's involvement in endurance riding. He joined the City Amateur Showjumping and Eventing Team, which shaped his early connection to equestrian sports. He earned his Veterinary Medicine degree from UNIMAR in 1998, followed by clinical residencies at the São Paulo Jockey Club and the Hospital Octávio Dupont of the Brazilian Jockey Club in Rio de Janeiro. He later specialized in Veterinary Anesthesiology at UNESP Botucatu. In 2003, Dr. Bittar founded Bittarvet, a mobile clinic focused on equine care, offering services in radiology, endoscopy, sports medicine, anesthesia, and dentistry. He served as an official veterinarian for FEI events from 2000 to 2016, and was part of the Brazilian Endurance Team during international championships from 2011 to 2013. In 2016, he contributed to the Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games as a consultant, field-of-play coordinator, and horse ambulance team leader.

A passionate educator, Dr. Bittar has taught Equine Dentistry across Brazil since 2008, and serves as a postgraduate professor at IBVET and Univertix.  Internationally, he has lectured at the Academy of Equine Dentistry (USA) and Moore Equine Dental Education (Texas), and spoken at major conferences including IAED. He is confirmed to speak at the Dutch Congress of Equine Dentistry in 2025. He continues to pursue international training and collaboration through congresses and internships in the USA and Germany. Today, Dr. Bittar travels throughout Brazil performing advanced dental procedures and developing specialized instruments for equine oral care.

He lives in Rio Claro/SP with his wife, Dr. Juliana Bittar, a veterinarian specialized in Equine Reproduction.

Together, they are proud parents of Jorge and Miguel.
